09:45 pm - w00t@
It's been a really eventful last couple of weeks! I guess I'll share in case anyone cares :)

Two weekends ago I went to my friend Justin's wedding to his gf Nhu. It was absolutely beautiful and heart warming and enough to make me want to drink myself silly except I don't really like alcohol or being drunk so I just hung out with another friend's gf all night dancing. It really was a wonderful wedding, it just hones in on the 'single and likely to stay that way state.' I don't really want to change, just occasionally I wish I had a date for weddings or someone to cuddle with, blah blah blah. But I had a good time and it was great to see Justin again!

The next weekend I flew to Seattle to see my sister Shana along with my mom. We hung out, saw a play, went to Pike pl. market, bought good spices, played rockband... I totally rock at rock band drums (at least on medium) and wish I had all the equipment but I don't want to buy a new tv/ av receiver/ sound system / ps3 / rock band game. It's just too much. But I do love playing with people! It was good to see my sister, though I'm kind of glad I only stayed two days. Note that it take a day to fly to Seattle and a day to fly back. My sister's life is just... so full of drama. Everything is a big deal. She's a lot better and I do love her, but short visits are ideal for all of us.

Coming home, my plane got delayed and didn't get in until midnight. Then there's all kinds of trouble with the buses - turned out the special bus only lane got two buses wedged in next to each other and stuck so all the buses had to take the other lanes and everything was crazy. Finally got home round 1:30 in the morning.

I worked 2 10 hour days and then Wednesday evening my friend Cody came into town! We had a totally awesome time together and I'm really glad he visited. Thursday night we saw Metric at the 9:30 club which was fun even if the lead singer danced like an idiot and had some weird monologues. Friday night I saw King Lear with my mom - Cody tried to get tickets but we tired too late and there were none left at a discount so he chilled at home. My mom and I ate at Matchbox which was *amazing*. We had bacon wrapped shrimp and cheese grits and then pizza, plus desert. It was so yummy - but also expensive.

Friday night I got back and Cody was bored, so we watched Ghostbusters and ate thin mints. I haven't seen Ghostbusters in forever and it's still a really hilarious movie. Then Saturday we got up late, made carrot cake, waited forever for Aaron to show up and then made our way to Nik's game night house warming. We had a totally rocking time - ate carrot cake and ice cream cake, played a game of Cities and Knights, some Galaxy Trucker, some RoboRally, and then some We Didn't Playtest This. We didn't end up leaving till like 1 in the morning or something. Sunday we got up and did some random stuff and then Will came over for some more games. We played much more Galaxy Trucker, where Cody preceded to kick all our asses, and then we played some Puerto Rico. Also we made delicious apple, gorgonzola, and walnut pizza.

Monday I went back to work but in the evening Cody, Brian and I went and saw Paper Chase at DC9. The first two opening acts were 'enh'. In the words of Cody, if the first band was bad, they put on a really good show for a bad band! But pAper chAse was an awesome show! I hadn't really listened to their stuff before except 2 minutes on myspace and really, myspace does not do them justice. There's just too much going on to sound good at MySpaces low-bit rate. In the words of Brian, paper chase is what you would get if you took Modest Mouse, but them in an insane asylum for 20 years and only let them watch horror movies. It's amazing music but it takes your attention - not background music. I'm totally addicted to them now. Jon Congleton is my new favorite person ever. Also, he's a scary guy.

On the way back from the show, Cody and I stopped and ate pizza at Malek's. It was great fun but we didn't even get back till 2:30 in the morning. THe next morning I got up at 8 am again for work. Tuesday night, Will came over again since the game night at Bread and Brew was delayed due to the red line crash. We played a game of Caylus which confirmed to me that Caylus is awesome. We had only got to the middle section however when we realized the last metro was in 10 minutes and we had to get Will on it. In our defense, we took forever making dinner and drinking wine and eating watermelon, but that's the second game of Caylus I didn't finish!

Wednesday, Cody and I just chilled out before he left in the morning. Thursday night I went to the delayed game night at Bread and Brew and played Caylus with Rachel, Jason and Michael. We actually finished the game! I won by working the castle for favors (I think) and had a good time. Friday I chilled at home though played BSW with Ben, Nikolas and Will.

Today I got a lot of stuff done on my house. At 8 in the morning the people arrived and installed brand new windows in my house! Then my mom came over and she finished priming and painting the kitchen and half bath while I sanded the second coat of joint compound off the bathroom ceiling upstairs. We got a lot done and totally wiped ourselves out. We hung some pictures too at the end of the night and I only broke one thing (my roommates blinds) so it was a pretty good work day!

Anyway, things have been busy but lots of fun. I'm feeling way happier and healthier and may be over the grad school wipe-out. My phone battery keeps dying, so if I don't answer it may have died. I'm going berry picking tomorrow which will be awesome, then next week is the fourth of july. Friday I plan to play games for ages and then the fourth Jess and I are going to TJ memorial like we did back in high school and picnic and watch the fireworks. Anyone who is interested is welcome to come :)

08:39 pm - Technological Progress by Arthur J. Stewart
I tell my sons, you must learn
to insinuate yourself into the world:
you must learn to work
in, amongst and through

the molecularity of being; you must learn
how to push the delicate
threads of the self into pixels,
energy fields, Gaussian curves, the step-

functions of life; you must
come to understand uncertainty,
the silly prancing dance of neutrons,
electrons, and learn how to surf

advances in new materials: blue lasers,
solid-state biphasic epsilonic wavelets,
quantum computing, nano-scale fabrication:
a propensity of density,

oh yes, wonderful things
beyond my comprehension. It's time
I say for your dad to fall
behind the curve. And don't forget

I say to love.

Been a bit wiped and worn out this week after scheduling a whole bunch of stuff for the house. Graduation this weekend and then hopefully I'll feel better and go out and actually see people again. I'm sorry for being a hermit, I promise I'll do better soon! :)

07:53 pm - Pound cake
I made delicious pound cake today - it's actually still in the oven but the batter was oh so good and it smells oh-so-good.

I've been making a lot of cakes recently for work since I run the birthday cake club. I really enjoy baking and I love eating them too - though sometimes I enjoy baking more than the eating. I'll have to keep running the birthday cake club - otherwise there's not enough reason for me to bake. I kind of wish I had more reasons. Like owning my own bakery or something. But it's probably too much hassle in the long run and I certainly don't have the money to do it or go to chef school or anything - I'm not even sure I want to be a professional baker as much as I want to own a bakery where sometimes I bake cakes and sometimes other people bake them.

That's really all I have to add! I don't post much because my life is not interesting/drama-tastic enough. But grad school is over in two months, dating is off for the most part (not enough interest on my part to keep meeting random people), hopefully hanging out with friends is still in.

And cakes are waaayyyyy in.

I don't make resolutions.

Nope, but two are due next year.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, my grandpa

Tanzania in Dec/Jan and Japan in October.

I suppose my grandpa's death - and Obama's election.

I'm sick with a cold right now, but that's it. So not too bad.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My house.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My sister Shana for remembering me when I bought a house, my brother-in-law Jon for being happy to help with said house, my sister Joan for having kids (I'm excited about being an aunt!), my mom for everything and more.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I'm not hating this year.

14. Where did most of your money go?

I don't think I have one.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

Working out, relaxing, being with my friends, sleeping!

My grandpa's funeral was the day before my birthday - but the day of, I had Chinese with my cousins and then saw Major Barbara. It was really good.

The whole grandpa not dying thing would have been cool. But there's a time and a place for everything.

So one of my kitties is curled up in my arm and sleeping there as I surf the internet. It is very cute and makes my day a whole lot better.

Today was long and tiring. I'm just feeling kind of enh, like the beginning of a cold or something. I sure hope I'm not getting sick, I can't afford to. I have school again this weekend and no sick leave and no vacation. Ugh. I'm drinking tea and hoping for the best. Work was stressful too. We ran this test that I've been directing/organizing. We've run it all last week and it was so easy and good. This one today though randomly happened to cause a major issue. So yay for that :( I was so hoping to end on a good note too. Oh well.

Time to cuddle with cat + fuzzy blanket.

02:29 am - Hellow World
So I finally fixed my laptop! It's really only been broken four days, but it feels like forever. When I'm on vacation, I try to avoid computers and the internet, but being at home without internet, especially when trying to do homework, feels like torture. It was horrible really... okay, it was just annoying. Fine, let your reality walk in here.

If you want a Christmas/other winter season holiday card, let me know! Comments are screened, so no worries.

When my cats make noises, they sound more like... pigeons cooing. Or a turkey gobbling. I can't figure it out.
